The children in the butterflies class are learning about clouds! They are identifying different types of clouds (Cumulus, Stratus, Cirrus) and learning about how evaporation and precipitation work. They are making cloud art, reading books about clouds and conducting experiments to show how water evaporates, collects in a cloud and then returns to earth as rain. For the experiment we poured hot water into a glass jar until it was filled half way. We then placed a glass bowl on top of that jar and put ice in the bowl. As the hot air from the bottom met the cold glass, water droplets formed. As the droplets became bigger and heavier, they dropped back down into the water below. This helped show

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

We LOVE Dr. Seuss here at the preschool! His books are some of our very favorite to read and share with the kids. “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” - Dr. Seuss We celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday today by making striped "Cat in the Hat" hats. The kids glued torn red construction paper and tissue paper onto stripes on the hat. They did an "a/b" pattern of red and white. We think they all turned out really cute as "cats in hats!"

Painted Crosses

The children have been preparing for Easter by making some beautiful cross artwork! They completed this project in several steps. They first traced and filled in a cross shape with white oil pastel. They then used watercolor paint over the entire page. Once that was dry, they traced different sized circular shapes onto the paper with white paint. The final step was to trace a cross shape again with black paint onto a separate piece of paper and then make a "print" of that cross shape on to their artwork. We think the results are beautiful!
